The eye-catching feature of this site is the 496- step central stairway guarded by two rows of Japanese Maple. Under the sunshine, the maple leaves are painted with bright red resembling a beautiful picture. It is highly recommended that visitors can walk along this stairway to enjoy the experience of walking through a red-leaf tree tunnel. At the end of this stairway, you can immediately walk into the virgin Taiwan Cypress forest to enjoy the aroma of phytoncide.

You don’t have to wait until autumn to watch the Japanese Maple’s leaves turn red here. And in early spring, new sprout will grow into deep purple leaf which will stand till Oct. In winter, the central stairway will become a white forest of ice crystals which is breathtakingly beautiful.

Taipingshan Villa is managed by Yilan Branch, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency. It used to be the administration center of Taipingshan Forest Farm. This is the place where most of the Recreation Area’s facilities and managing offices are situated.

The villa is built on a slope and its buildings are divided by the central stairway. It is constantly surrounded by clouds and fogs so that it looks much like a small town high above in the sky.
